The largest of North American cats, mountain lions, also known as pumas or cougars are known for their loud piercing scream. Extremely agile cats, they can leap up to a ledge or tree branch more than 16 feet off the ground. Preferring rocky terrain, cougars will travel over a hundred miles stalking deer. Hunted heavily by man, the Eastern and Florida cougar are now near extinction.
